Shaheen calls for up-or-down vote for Gorsuch

Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) stood on the Senate floor and called for an up-or-down vote on the nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch.

“I think we should all work together to move these nominees,” the senator said. “I haven’t heard any Democrats saying we don’t think that Judge Gorsuch should get a hearing or that he should get an up-or-down vote. Everybody I’ve talked to agrees he should get a hearing and an up-or-down vote.”

“I think we are going to do that,” Sen. Shaheen continued. “But we’re going to do it in a way that provides information to the American people, so we all know where this Judge stands and what he thinks about the role on the Supreme Court.”

Judge Gorsuch is unquestionably qualified and has an impressive record of defending the Constitution.

In 2006, Gorsuch was unanimously confirmed by the Senate to serve on the Tenth Circuit. He has dedicated his life to protecting the Constitution and individual liberty.

Judge Gorsuch respects the rule of law and refuses to legislate from the bench, because he believes in a balance of power between branches.

Other senators should follow Sen. Shaheen’s lead and call for an up-or-down vote. There is no reason not to confirm Gorsuch in a clean, expedited process. The American people deserve to have this vacancy filled as quickly as possible.
